Revert...

This is dedicated to all my friends and colleagues out there who have been and are still using this word in the wrong context... just like I did despite me knowing the meaning but sometimes when everybody does something you tend to end up following the majority. I was corrected... strangely I can't seem to recall by whom or how... but I have a strong suspicion it was my ex-boss.

I had written an e-mail to Telekom Malaysia on Tuesday, stating that I had difficulty registering for their 'Online' service as the system kept saying that my account had been registered but I don't recall registering. They replied this afternoon and one of the sentences in the response read, 'We hope the above revert to your query' and another 'Before we could do so, please fill in the attached form and revert back to us at tmonline@tm.com.my'. First of all, assuming the use of the word is correct in the first sentence it should then read 'reverts to your query'... anyway... My friends and colleagues have the habit of stating in their written correspondences... 'We will revert to you shortly' or something along those lines.

Revert means... 'to return to a previous state' and not what was written in the sentences above... which should actually be answers, return and get back respectively.

Now that you have read this, you are duly informed so please correct yourself from hereon. Thank you. : )
